Wilem and Me

Here we are--my son Wilem will be 15 in just a few days. He is so thrilled to be here, LOL. Seriously, he has made some friends, and he has been enjoying some good food.

Manchester Train Station

Here is the train station in Manchester. It is near the airport also. It is possible to live in the UK and not have a car since the public transportation system is easy to use and fairly reliable. Petrol-gas--is sold by the liter and it is expensive.

Sheffield Train Station

I have used this station quite a few times to take the train all over the UK. There is a huge shopping mall of sorts called Meadowhall outside of Sheffield adn the train is one stop south of it. It costs around 2 pounds to go there via train.

The Dr. Was NOT In.

TARDIS cousin--one of the 120 that used to serve as a place for Sheffield police. Introduced in 1928--missing flashing blue light on top. Timey-wimey thingy optional.

Let's hope that the items delineated here are not expected to be bought en masse and used simultaneously by teenagers--or anyone else for that matter!

Afternoon Cream Tea

After much walking and shopping for necessary things: top up pay-as-you-go phone; replace defunct US hair dryer with a UK one; buy tights, lotion(skin dry), and waterproof, warm and comfortable shoes(yea!)--finally it is time for a tea break in the early afternoon.

I went to the John Lewis Department Store Cafe. Tea, hot water, milk, and a scone with clotted cream, which is something that I imagine angels must live on. See: fruit jam, butter, and clotted cream on a sultana scone. A proper scone is somewhere between an American buttermilk biscuit and a shortcake--our version of strawberry shortcake just isn't the same--a distant cousin, a make-do in the colonies. I couldn't finish my scone! I actually didn't need dinner after my breakfast and tea break today. A day of traditional treats.

My Day: Sat, 2 Oct 2010

I started up from the Arundal Gate Exchange bus stop(see previous views) and stopped at a tea shop for a full English(traditional breakfast). The only thing missing is the egg(I am allergic). I am a big fan of the full English or fry-up breakfast. 12 O'clock--buttered toast, black pudding slice beneath, 1AM-banger sausage, 3AM-stewed tomatoes,6AM-rasher of smoked, back bacon(the best in the world!), 9AM-Heinz baked beans(to eat on the toast). Finish off with white tea(tea with milk). 5.25 pounds: this will keep me going through to the late afternoon!

Wellingtons

The cat approves of my footwear. I thought I might need rubber boots--wellies-- and I was correct. No more "intermittent showers." Now, it is constant drizzle intermixed with pelting-freezing-drenching rain. I walked through it all. I carried on. No complaints. It just is what it is.
